The top executives at HIMSS have been recognized by their association industry peers for outstanding leadership and contributions to advancements in the field of health information technology.
In a national ranking by CEO Update, a bi-weekly publication for professional association and non-profit executives, H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, president and CEO of HIMSS, placed among the top 21 Chief Executive Officer leaders.
According to CEO Update, HIMSS, with more than 30,000 members, is "seen as the leading voice in healthcare IT," with Lieber recognized for more than quadrupling the size of the organization since he joined HIMSS in 2000. Under his leadership, HIMSS has established new collaborative efforts, expanded its services and reached out to a wider array of communities.
During the last decade, Lieber established the Society as a global leader on issues such as electronic health records, interoperability, technology standards, IT adoption and certification. He also brought significant growth to HIMSS by expanding its scope to encompass ambulatory IT issues and healthcare financial information systems, as well as providing HIMSS leadership in the acute care clinical information systems arena.
Lieber previously served as Executive Director of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) before joining the American Hospital Association as Vice President, Division of Personal Membership Groups. Other prior experience includes: Vice President of Operations for the Illinois Hospital Association; Senior Budget Analyst for the Illinois Bureau of the Budget; and Assistant Administrator, Research and Statistics for Arkansas Social Services. He holds an M.A. from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arkansas. Lieber is a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
R. Norris Orms, FACHE, CAE
Orms, HIMSS Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, will be presented with the Professional Performance Award from the American Society of Association Executives during its 2010 Annual Meeting & Exposition on Aug. 21-24 in Los Angeles. The award recognizes invaluable contributions made by senior association executives who are at the top level within their organizations but are not CEOs.
Since joining HIMSS in 1997, Orms has managed HIMSS communications, publishing, human resources, marketing, meeting services, headquarters and other U.S. and global facilities, and HIMSS Foundation, its philanthropic organization. Before joining HIMSS, he was Executive Director of the National Safety Council's Foundation for Safety and Health, a national philanthropic organization located in Chicago.
Orms holds a Masters of Business Administration degree. He is board-certified in healthcare management, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives, and a Certified Association Executive (CAE). He is also an ASAE Business Services, Inc. Board member.
